A fire has gutted a tailoring workshop on the first floor of Leventis Plaza in Abuja, destroying property and equipment while the Federal Fire Service (FFS) successfully contained the blaze, saving approximately ₦900 million worth of assets.
The Federal Fire Service confirmed that the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge. According to FFS spokesperson Paul Abraham, the prompt response of firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other parts of the plaza and neighboring commercial properties, including Grand Square, The Palm Hotels, and Frazier’s Suites.
“Upon receiving the emergency call, the FFS Control Room dispatched the Special Unit from the National Headquarters. The crew, led by SF Adoko, arrived within five minutes and contained the fire promptly,” Abraham said.
The firefighting team conducted a thorough inspection, salvage, and overhaul of the affected area. Their swift action protected property valued at approximately ₦900 million out of an estimated total of ₦1 billion, minimizing further loss.
Abraham urged residents and business owners to exercise caution with electrical installations to prevent similar incidents. He reaffirmed the FFS commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide.
Fire outbreaks in Abuja’s commercial buildings have been increasingly linked to electrical faults and poor maintenance, raising ongoing safety concerns among residents and business owners.
