The district services board says they’re starting to see the financial — as well as social — benefits of adding supportive housing.
“We’re adamant, and strongly believe that we’re going to see the same outcomes in Kenora, as well,” said CAO Henry Wall, noting the addition of new housing units on the horizon.
The services board hopes to add a new remand centre, as well as treatment beds, in Kenora. Construction on the 58 new units is expected to start this spring.
After the budget process for 2020, Wall says they’re able to now look at reinvesting savings from emergency services into preventive programs. He anticipates more financial benefits, as they work more closely with community partners.
