There are arrays of hope that the war against the ravaging pandemic may come to an end soon as scientists have disclosed that they have discovered an effective drug for the virus.

While there is still no approved official drug for the virus which has claimed over seven hundred thousand lives, scientists have stated that the newly discovered drug has proven effective.

While noting that several drugs are on trials that could be effective against the novel coronavirus, the medical experts noted that dexamethasone and remdesivir have so far proven effective against COVID-19.

Despite dexamothesone and remdesivir being effective on COVID-19 patients, doctors have revealed another drug that is the most effective against COVID-19.

Reports have it that the doctors from Boston Medical Center (BMC) who treated coronavirus patients with interleukin-6 (IL6ri) inhibitors such as tocilizumab and sarilumab (used to treat inflammatory conditions and autoimmune diseases like arthritis rheumatoid) revealed good news to the globe after the great findings on the efficacy of the drugs on COVID-19.

According to them, the drug is more effective as compared to dexamethasone and remdesivir as trials proved. Trials revealed that patients on interleukin-6 inhibitors had a lower mortality rate as compared to those on dexamethasone and remdesivir.

“In aggregate, IL6ri was associated with decreased morality rate, decreased rate of intubation, higher likelihood of being discharged alive and shorter length of stay,” wrote the researchers in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases.

While noting that more trials are still ongoing, the doctors, however hope that the drug would help other doctors globally as they seek to find other solutions to reduce mortality rates.
