The federal government of Nigeria has appealed to both public and private industry players in the housing sector to close ranks in building a formidable housing sector in the overall interest of national development.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Barr. Boss Mustapha made the demand on stakeholders in his goodwill message during the opening ceremony of the ongoing 15th edition of the Abuja International Housing Show (AIHS) on Monday.
According to the SGF who was ably represented at event said, “Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges are not insurmountable, rather, they hold great promise and opportunities that must be keyed into for national development.
“The participants and stakeholders of the housing sector have been granted an opportunity to make history by collaborating to chart a better course for our nation’s housing sector and overall development,” he charged.
Stressing the importance of the National Social Housing Programme to the government and the people of Nigeria, the nation’s chief scribe charged all stakeholders in the public sector to collaborate towards ensuring that government’s housing related interventions and programmes are planned for with the appropriate data. Mustapha equally urged the private sector players to be partners of government in the quest for affordable housing for all Nigerians.
“The nation’s number one resource remains its people, and an ever-growing housing demand of over 17 million cannot be taken for granted,” he said, while commending the organisers of the Abuja International Housing Show for their pursuit of affordable housing provision as a tool for stimulating economic growth.
Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing and the Ghanian Minister of State for Works and Housing were among the top dignitaries that spoke at the event.
