The Federal Government has urged stronger collaboration between public and private operators in Africa’s real estate sector to reduce housing deficits and accelerate growth across the continent.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, made the call yesterday in Lagos at the opening of the 24th annual conference of the African Real Estate Society (AfRES). The conference, themed “Shaping the Future of African Real Estate Markets: Exploring the Opportunities,” brought together stakeholders from East, West, and Southern Africa, alongside global affiliates.
Represented by the Federal Controller of Housing in Lagos, Mrs. Olayiwola Funmilayo, Dangiwa said Africa’s housing challenges could only be tackled through inclusive partnerships, innovative financing, and enabling policy environments.
He stressed that the continent’s real estate future must be driven by Africans themselves, not outsiders, adding that effective governance frameworks, transparent processes, and long-term capital mobilisation were essential.
The minister also highlighted the importance of data, research, and technology in improving planning, reducing risks, and ensuring sustainable outcomes.
The AfRES conference was attended by the society’s president, Dr. Kunle Awolaja, as well as regional representatives and partners from allied associations worldwide.
