The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed off Ibro Hotel in Zone 5, Abuja, due to the hotel’s failure to pay ground rent for 26 years. This action is part of a broader initiative by the FCTA to reclaim properties across the capital city that have defaulted on ground rent payments.
In a related development, the FCTA recently revoked 4,794 land titles in prime districts such as Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, and Garki for non-payment of ground rent exceeding ten years. The total outstanding ground rent owed by these defaulters amounts to approximately ₦6.97 billion. Despite numerous public notices since 2023, many property owners failed to settle their obligations, prompting the FCTA to take decisive action.
The FCTA has granted a 21-day grace period for property owners who have defaulted for between one and ten years to clear their outstanding ground rent. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the revocation of their land titles.
This move underscores the FCTA’s commitment to enforcing land use regulations and ensuring compliance with legal obligations concerning ground rent payments in the Federal Capital Territory.,
