Enugu state governor ,Peter Mbah has urged the Federal Government to expedite the release of the 13 percent oil revenue allocation due to the state, in accordance with the Derivation Principle outlined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The appeal came during a meeting with the Indices and Disbursement Committee of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) held at the Government House, Enugu.
Enugu was officially recognized as an oil-producing state by RMAFC in December 2022. However, Governor Mbah expressed disappointment that the state has yet to receive its rightful share from the revenue generated by oil fields within its territory, including Anambra River Basin 1, 2, and 3.
“We acknowledge the recognition of Enugu as an oil-producing state based on the Inter-agency Technical Committee’s findings last year. Despite this, the state has not started benefiting from the 13 percent derivation from these oil fields. We call on your office to facilitate the necessary actions to ensure we receive these funds,” Mbah said.
While awaiting the revenue disbursement, Governor Mbah highlighted his administration’s efforts to boost internally generated revenue (IGR). He noted that the state’s IGR has increased by over 400 percent through diversifying revenue sources and leveraging technology to curb revenue leakages.
