The Ekiti State Government has approved more than ₦12 billion for key infrastructure projects covering road construction, housing, and agriculture.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, announced the approvals in a statement on Thursday in Ado Ekiti, saying they were part of the major resolutions of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
According to him, the council awarded a ₦7.3 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the Ikogosi–Ipole–Efon Alaaye Road. He explained that the project would ease the hardship of residents, stimulate socio-economic activities, and strengthen security in the area. The scope of work will include clearing, earthworks, construction of concrete drains, scarification, pavement, and asphalting. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The council also approved a ₦3.87 billion contract for the construction of aviation staff quarters at the Ekiti State Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado Ekiti. Olatunbosun noted that the facility, to be built by CCECC Nigeria Limited, would improve operational efficiency, enhance security, and reduce transportation challenges for airport staff.
The quarters will comprise 40 residential units 32 self-contained apartments for junior and middle-level staff, six one-bedroom flats for senior officers, and two two-bedroom apartments for management. Additional works include external infrastructure, car parks, and the installation of a direct flame incinerator for waste management. The project has a four-month completion timeline.
In the agriculture sector, the council approved ₦638.38 million for furniture and equipment in newly built dormitories under the “Bring Back Our Youths to Agriculture” programme. The move, Olatunbosun said, is to make the residences fully habitable for participants in the scheme.
