Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the rehabilitation of over 45 deteriorated sections of the Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo Federal Road. This initiative aims to rejuvenate economic activities in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area and improve connectivity to neighboring Kogi and Ondo states.
The decision follows recent protests by Igarra youths, who highlighted the road’s poor condition as a factor contributing to increased insecurity, including kidnappings. They also called for the establishment of a military base to bolster security in the region.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration had previously completed the construction of the Ikiran-Oke to Ikakhumoh Road in the same local government area, demonstrating a commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.
The Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo road serves as a vital corridor for communities engaged in quarrying and cassava processing. Its rehabilitation is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient transportation of goods, thereby boosting local economies.
Project contractor Bajwa Hammed has assured residents of adherence to high construction standards, emphasizing the urgency of repairing the failed sections to ensure safe passage for people and vehicles.
This development underscores the Edo State government’s proactive approach to addressing infrastructural challenges and enhancing the welfare of its citizens.
