Eight graduates from the 2025 class of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, have secured international scholarships worth millions of dollars to pursue higher education in various universities across the United States and Canada.
At the school’s valedictory and graduation ceremony held in Lagos, the Head of School and Principal, Dr. Adebisi Layiwola, announced the impressive scholarship haul while commending the graduating students for their resilience and academic excellence.
Among the awardees is Ayodeji Udeze Daniel, who received scholarship offers from several American institutions, including $64,000 from the New York Institute of Technology, $54,000 from Fisher College, $24,000 from Arizona State University, and another $24,000 from George Mason University. He will be studying Computer Engineering.
Another standout is Odusanya Timilehin, who was awarded $144,000 by Loyola University to study Communications. He also received $77,000 from the University at Albany, New York, and $30,000 from Montclair State University.
Ogim Trinity Ejik-Obasi Peter secured $124,000 from the Illinois Institute of Technology for a program in Electrical Engineering, as well as $72,000 from Nova Southeastern University and $28,000 from Colorado State University.
Daniel Eko was awarded an $18,400 scholarship from the University of Memphis, while Makinwa Oreoluwa received offers amounting to $32,000 from Menlo College and Clarkson University.
Another beneficiary, Afolabi Ilerioluwase Onabanjo, won a $60,000 scholarship from Clarkson University.
Ogunmoroti Kayode received multiple offers, including $54,498 from Lewis and Clark College, $108,000 from Loyola University New Orleans, and a $200,000 scholarship from the College of Wooster, Ohio, also to study Computer Engineering.
Chukwidumebi Onwuma was awarded a CA$5,000 scholarship by Simon Fraser University in Canada.
In her address, Dr. Layiwola praised the achievements of the graduates, emphasizing the values they’ve developed throughout their time at the school. “You have not only mastered your subjects; you have developed character, integrity, empathy, and vision. We are indeed proud of you,” she said. She further noted their ability to adapt, collaborate, and think critically in the face of challenges.
Guest speaker at the event, former Ogun West senator Felix Bajomo, advised the students to balance academic excellence with strong moral foundations. “Your academic brilliance will open doors, but your character and integrity will determine how far you go,” he said. He encouraged the graduates to create opportunities where none seem to exist, reminding them that resilience and boldness are key to long-term success.
Sameerah Lawan emerged as the valedictorian, earning the distinction of most outstanding graduate with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00. She topped a class of 40 graduating students.
