Going by the Construction Enquirer report, Deconstruct UK Ltd is taking over from Wates on the Grenfell tower safety and maintenance contract.

The specialist will take take control of the fire ravaged building in July.

Deconstruct UK has been working as a subcontractor to Wates Property Services who have been working at Grenfell since 2017.

The latest Government update emphasised that Deconstruct UK have not been appointed to demolish the tower.

Safety and security works will include round-the-clock monitoring, asbestos removal, new support installation and ongoing maintenance.

More than 120 workers will be employed on the site under the 12 month deal which could be extended by another two years and is worth up to £32m.

The government update added: “A decision has not yet been made on the future of the Tower.

“The new contractor will be responsible for the essential safety and general maintenance works at the Grenfell Tower site. Their contract does not include any works related to bringing down the Tower.

“Following important safety advice from structural engineering firms, Atkins, and Jacobs, we have recently written to the community about a decision on the future of Grenfell Tower.

“The government is keen to speak to as many bereaved families, survivors and local residents as possible, and hear any questions, concerns or comments before a decision is made.

“Meetings are currently taking place for families and individuals to hear from and talk to the team and engineering experts advising the government.

“If a decision were taken to deconstruct the Tower, we would procure a specialist contractor to carry out any future works on the Tower using our usual, thorough procurement process.
