With farming already under way in Kwame-Danso, Dangote plans a refinery and sugarcane plantation to cut Ghana’s $160m sugar import bill and employ thousands.

When Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote announced plans for a $162m sugar refinery in Ghana’s Bono Region, the news made headlines across the continent. But beneath the big figures and ambitious timelines lies a project that could reshape Ghana’s agricultural economy – if the promise of jobs and industrialisation can be delivered.
