An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three persons to death by hanging for armed robbery.

The convicts; Shadrack Apos (30), Lucky Akpos (33), and Adunola Precious (24), were found guilty of robbing an 87-year-old woman, Victoria Folorunso, of ₦186,000 and a wristwatch at Ifaki-Ekiti on June 12, 2024.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery, contrary to Sections 421 and 321 (2)(b) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law, 2021.

The victim told the court she was attacked around 1 a.m. by two men, one armed with a gun and another with a plank, while her househelp, Adunola Precious, allegedly assisted them by granting access to the house.

Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, in his ruling, said evidence before the court showed that Precious played a key role in facilitating the robbery.

“The 3rd defendant, Adunola Precious, must have opened the door to enable the robbers to gain entry into the house. The prosecution has proved the charge of conspiracy and armed robbery beyond reasonable doubt,” the judge stated.

He consequently sentenced all three defendants to death by hanging, praying for divine mercy on their souls.
