The construction contract for a €1m social housing development in Barrack Street, Loughrea has been signed.

The housing development was announced last year and will see the creation of 5 two-storied terraced houses – two with 3 bedrooms and three with 2 bedrooms.

Galway County Council confirmed the construction contract with Jada Projects Ltd and it is hoped that the development will be completed in early 2021.

East Galway TD Ciarán Cannon has said that the development is a vital investment in meeting local housing needs.

“This is a vital investment in meeting local housing needs and is being funded under ‘Rebuilding Ireland – Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness’ with the project anticipated to be completed in early 2021,” said Minister Cannon.

“It is especially encouraging to see the development commence at the same time as we prepare to get underway with work on the old Town Hall just further up the street which will add hugely to the town’s enterprise and tourism potential.

“This is an investment in the future of a town which has always had a vibrant business life and is the location of a thriving educational environment and I welcome this further progress in our work to ensure that people’s housing needs are met in regions like East Galway.”
