The Federal Government has mandated coronavirus vaccination for civil servants.

The Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, announced the new directive at a briefing on Wednesday.

He explained that civil servants would not be allowed to enter offices starting from December 1 without vaccination proof.

Mustapha said, “With effect from 1st December, 2021, Federal Government employees shall be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours, to gain access to their offices, in all locations within Nigeria and our Missions. An appropriate service wide advisory/circular will be issued to guide the process.

“The PSC wishes to put Nigerians on notice that two major religious festivities (Salah and Christmas) are approaching and we shall be experiencing increased passenger traffic in and out of the country.

“Similarly, events of large gatherings are likely to hold. While the PSC prepares to escalate surveillance and other control activities, we urge the States and all Nigerians to also increase their vigilance and take measure to moderate activities.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says the country recorded 175 new
cases of COVID-19 across the country in the last 24 hours.

It added that the fatality figure remained at 2,756.

It noted that the 175 new cases was a decrease from the 284 cases reported on Tuesday.

It, however, added that the new figure increased the country’s infection toll to 208,153, while 195,936 people were treated and discharged across the country.

It stated that “till date, 208,153 cases have been confirmed, 195,936 cases have been discharged and 2,756 deaths recorded in 36 states of the federation and the FCT.”
