As youth unemployment continues to pose a serious challenge in Nigeria, a faith-based initiative is breaking new ground by introducing young people to wealth-building strategies in the real estate sector.
At the 2025 edition of the Roundtable-Lekki conference, hosted by the Church of God Mission’s Victoria Island Zone in Lagos, church leaders emphasized the importance of equipping youths with tools for long-term financial independence. The event, now in its third year, is part of a broader empowerment movement that targets young Nigerians, especially recent graduates, with practical business insights.
Pastor Chris Ubamadu, the zonal coordinator, explained that the church launched the initiative as a proactive step toward addressing the country’s employment crisis.
“We saw the frustration many young people are going through due to limited job opportunities,” he said. “This platform isn’t just about discussion it’s about exposure to income-generating skills. This year, we zeroed in on real estate as a viable path to financial growth.”
According to him, the goal is not charity but transformation. “It’s not enough to offer temporary help. We want to empower individuals with the kind of knowledge that can change their financial future.”
The event featured expert speakers from both public and private sectors. Notably, Augustine Onwumere, founding chairman of PWAN Group, and Lagos State’s Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, were present to guide participants on property investment strategies and housing development opportunities.
Each year, the conference focuses on a different sector of the economy. Previous editions have explored digital entrepreneurship and social media income streams. This evolution reflects the church’s intention to stay relevant and responsive to market trends.
Pastor Ubamadu said the church is committed to contributing meaningfully to national development. “Our faith must reflect in action,” he said. “We believe religious organisations should be part of the solution by helping people navigate real-life challenges.”
By creating this kind of platform, the Church of God Mission is redefining the role of religious institutions in Nigeria—offering not only spiritual guidance but also tangible opportunities for youth empowerment and economic participation.
