BUA Cement Company has awarded scholarship to 50 students, who are indigenes of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.

The firm also gave empowerment kits to the 50 persons trained on its skill acquisition programmes.

Speaking at the event in Sokoto Saturday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Yusuf Haliru Binji, said the gesture is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Represented by the Plant Director, Mr. Aminu Bashar, Binji said the gesture was to complement Governor Aminu Tambuwal administration’s policies on declaration of a state of emergency on education in Sokoto State.

He further explained that 24 schools, mostly from the host communities, would be given exercise books, desks and chairs.

“What you are witnessing today is part of our corporate social responsibility and is being carry out annually,” he added.

He disclosed that the benefiting students are indigenes of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States studying engineering in various tertiary institutions in the country.

He added that out of the 50 slots, 15 were allocated to immediate host communities of Wamakko Local Government, while 15 were shared among other local governments of Sokoto State.

He further stressed that 20 slots were for indigenes of Kebbi and Zamfara States.

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Alhaji Haliru Bello Gwiwa, lauded the firm for the gesture.

He noted that the gesture would complement government’s efforts in the education sector.

According to Gwiwa, the scholarship and education materials would be a relief for the government and parents.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Saratu Ahmad and Jennifer John commended BUA Cement Company, saying it would lessen their burden and boost their performances.
