The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has chosen a new leader to head the union for the next four years. Professor Chris Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist affiliated with the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, has been elected as the new president of the academic body.
Professor Piwuna takes over from Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, a soil science expert from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, who previously held the position.
The announcement was made during ASUU’s 23rd National Delegates Congress, which convened in Benin City, Edo State, on Sunday. Professor Piwuna emerged victorious in the election, defeating Professor Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi.
