The Borno State Government is set to build 3,200 houses for the vulnerable persons and low-income workers in the state.
The houses will be completed by the Nigerian Homes Family (NHOF) firm, in partnership with the state government, by December 2022.
During the commissioning of 300 completed houses in Ngamdu at the weekend, Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed: “The construction firm is to build additional 1,000 houses for allocation to low-income households, particularly the civil servants.”
According to him, the houses are two-bedroom apartments with water supply, health centres, schools and fire services in the housing estates.
“Two years ago, the state government signed agreement with the firm to construct 3,200 low-cost houses for low-income workers.
“Funds were also received from NHOF to continue with the completion of houses,” he said, adding that the state government had started receiving repayment for the completed 300 houses.
Thanking the Managing Director of NHOF, Femi Adewale, the governor said: “You have contributed to the uplift of the living conditions of displaced persons in the state,” disclosing that the remaining 1,900 houses would be completed by 2022.
He, therefore, urged the construction firm to adhere strictly to the terms of the contracts, particularly on specification and duration.
On the allocation of the houses, the Commissioner for Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Mustapha Gubio, said that most of the beneficiaries were victims of disasters and vulnerable members of Ngamdu community.
He urged them to be resilient, while maintaining the estates by planting trees to fight desertification and protect the fragile environment.
