The federal government has approved the construction of a mobile police barracks in the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina, Katsina State to enhance the safety of the students and the host community.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, while briefing journalists Wednesday in preparation for the 5th and 6th combined convocation of the institution, said the establishment of the police base in the university would tackle security challenges in the area.

He said: “We had gone to the office of the National Security Adviser and asked for help and the federal government has approved the construction of a mobile police baracks within our main campus.

“I assure you very soon construction work will start and a mobile police barracks will be in the institution’s main campus to complement the effort of the already existing security personnel in the school.”

The vice-chancellor, however, said the university would graduate its first PhD students with 90 masters, Post-graduate Diploma and 1,210 undergraduate students during the 5th and 6th combined convocation which coincided with the school’s 10th year anniversary.

He explained that all the programmes of the institution have been accredited by the National University Commission (NUC), while the enrollment drive of the university have increased from 3,000 to 20,000.

While reiterating that he has established Faculties of Law, Engineering and Medicine and is awaiting approval from the NUC, Bichi said plans are on to convert the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, to be the University Teaching Hospital to avert medical tourism in the country.
