The new president, Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Enyi Ben-Eboh, has pledged to bridge the gap in professional competency within the architecture community. He stressed that self-development will be an area of focus as well as sustenance of his predecessor’s modalities of pursuing NIA’s objectives and legacy.
Ben-Eboh said this during his investiture and the 61st yearly general meeting gala night of the institute with the theme, “Smart architecture-exploring new frontiers in the architecture practice” held in Abuja.
The new leadership of the institute includes first Vice President, Mobolaji Adeniyi; second Vice President, Sani Saulawa; third Vice President, Chioma Wogu-Ogbonna; General Secretary, Chike Ibeanu, National Treasurer, Ali Muhktar; Chair, Admissions Committee, Aliyu Muhammad Saifuddeen; Chair, International Affairs Committee, Olanrewaju Olusola; Chair, Library & Publications Committee, Fitzgerald Umah.
Others are the chair, Public Relations Officer Committee, Chris Uloko and Chair, Students Affairs, Ololade Olayinka; Ex-officios – Moses Ajah, Oyegoke Omigbodun, Chair, Practice Committee, Oka Amogu, and immediate past president, Sonny Echono.
He said: “I believe the antecedents of the new NIA executive body will be the expectations of members in performance and successful delivery”
The new architects boss assured members that the Institute would embark on international collaborations and retreat for members in order to bring harmony among the architecture community with latest construction technology and improved construction methodology.
In a remark, the outgone president, Mr. Sonny Echono said the institute was able to re-establish its presence with the executive and legislative arm of government at both national and state levels during his tenure, adding that in the area of advocacy, the NIA championed the need for good architecture designs across the country.
Also speaking, the president of the Architects Registration Council Of Nigeria (ARCON), Dipo Ajayi represented by the registrar Umar Murnai said: ” All architects must begin to thrive on how to fit into the new paradigm, failure to do so may spell another form of doom.”
