Nigeria’s housing deficit is estimated to be over 22 million units, and the lack of affordable housing is a major challenge for many Nigerians. Architect Cecilia Atohengbe is committed to finding solutions to these problems, and she is hosting the upcoming Shelter Conference in Benin City from September 25th to 29th.

The Shelter Conference is a platform for stakeholders from all sectors to come together and discuss the challenges facing the housing sector. The conference will feature workshops, presentations, and panel discussions on topics such as affordable housing, sustainable construction, and data-driven planning.

“The housing sector is a key driver of economic growth,” said Atohengbe. “It provides jobs, stimulates investment, and improves the quality of life for Nigerians. However, the sector is facing significant challenges, including a chronic housing deficit, a lack of affordable housing, and poor quality housing.”

Atohengbe believes that collaboration and data-driven solutions are essential to addressing these challenges. “We need to bring together all stakeholders in the housing sector from developers and policymakers to civil society organizations to work together to find solutions,” she said. “We also need to collect accurate data on the housing needs of Nigerians so that we can develop effective policies and programs.”

The Shelter Conference will provide a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to share ideas and work towards solutions to Nigeria’s housing challenges. The conference is open to all stakeholders in the housing sector, including developers, policymakers, civil society organizations, and the general public.

The Shelter Conference is a timely and important event, and it is an opportunity for stakeholders to come together and work towards a more sustainable and equitable housing sector in Nigeria.

The conference is expected to attract over 500 participants from all over Nigeria. The keynote speaker will be the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and there will also be several panel discussions and workshops.

The Shelter Conference is a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to learn about the latest trends in the housing sector and to network with other professionals. It is also an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Nigerians who need affordable housing.
