Hon. Afam Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has empowered over 250 constituents through vocational training and grants, with a focus on solar technology, ICT, fisheries, and other skills aimed at boosting livelihoods and local enterprise.

The empowerment programme was announced during his second anniversary town hall meeting and presentation of scorecard, held at the Emmanuel Castle of Refuge Hall in Atani, headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Addressing the gathering, Ogene stated that the initiative was designed to improve economic activity and reduce unemployment across the constituency. He noted that beneficiaries not only received training but were also supported with financial grants and relevant materials to aid their start-up or scale-up efforts.

“This is about productivity, job creation, and income generation for families in Ogbaru. I pledged to lead with responsibility and prioritize the interests and development of our people,” Ogene said.

In addition to the empowerment efforts, Ogene used the occasion to report his legislative contributions, disclosing that he has sponsored 19 bills and 12 motions since assuming office. He also highlighted several constituency projects, including the installation of solar-powered streetlights, provision of electricity infrastructure, a water scheme for rural communities, security vehicles, construction of exam halls, science equipment for schools, and a cottage hospital.

Responding to claims circulating on social media that federal lawmakers received N1 billion each for constituency projects, Ogene dismissed the reports as unfounded and described them as deliberate attempts to tarnish reputations. He clarified that no such disbursement was made and urged constituents to rely on verifiable information.

“This scorecard presentation is part of my commitment to transparency and accountability. It is for the people to assess my performance and offer guidance as we move forward,” he added.

The town hall meeting was attended by political stakeholders, traditional leaders, religious figures, and community representatives, including the Labour Party chairman in Ogbaru LGA, Emeka Nwosu, and former Anambra Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu.
