The national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja remains sealed as of Wednesday morning, despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive issued 48 hours earlier to reopen the premises. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had initially sealed the PDP’s Wadata Plaza office in Wuse Zone 5 on Monday, citing unpaid ground rent spanning several decades.
President Tinubu intervened later that day, ordering the immediate unsealing of affected properties and granting a 14-day grace period for defaulters to settle their dues. However, as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the PDP secretariat remained locked, with FCTA enforcement seals still in place.
The continued closure has sparked criticism from PDP leaders, who view the action as politically motivated. Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum condemned the sealing as an “act of irresponsibility” by the federal government. Other prominent party figures, including former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, have called for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s expulsion from the party, describing his actions as “sacrilegious” and “unacceptable.”
In response, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to Minister Wike, defended the enforcement, stating that the FCTA’s actions were legally justified and not politically motivated.
Despite the presidential directive, the PDP office remains sealed. However, a source within the party informed Persecondnews that efforts are currently underway to resolve the issue and facilitate the reopening of the office.
The situation underscores ongoing tensions between the FCTA and the PDP, raising questions about the enforcement of presidential directives and the politicization of administrative actions.
