Residents of Goodness Estate in Arulogun-Ojoo, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, have complained about an ongoing power outage in their neighborhood, which has caused damage to stored goods and perishable products.

They also warned not to pay any bills to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) unless power was restored to their neighborhood.

Prof. Olusola Olatunji, the estate’s former Chairman, spoke on behalf of other residents, lamenting that while other sections of the state have power, the estate has not had it for the previous two weeks.

He emphasized that when there was light, it lasted only about a minute. As a result, Olatunji urged the Federal Government to prioritize power.

He also encouraged the IBEDC to address the issue of prepaid meters, so that residents are not obligated to pay for services they do not use.

Akin Adebayo, one of the estate’s teenagers, claimed they had approached IBEDC officials multiple times for advice on how to proceed, but that they had not responded to their complaints.

Adebanke Ojo, a resident who sells food in the estate, stated that due to frequent power outages, all of the food in her refrigerator had rotted.

As a result, she encouraged the Federal Government and the IBEDC to remedy the power problem and make life simpler for residents.
