A multi-million naira bridge project by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) in Kwali Area Council of the FCT has remained uncompleted six years after its construction was started.

Aso Chronicle visited the project site on Saturday, where residents of the area said the bridge which links Kwali to the Abuja-Lokoja highway was awarded to an indigenous construction firm in 2013.

A resident, Saidu Ibrahim, said the contractor handling the bridge abandoned the project some years back and had refused to return.

Ibrahim said, “The last time work was carried out on the bridge was when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015; that was when the contractor reappeared to carry out small work, but later abandoned it.”

Another resident, Comrade Baba Sani, who noted that the bridge also linked the old Suleja road, said the contractor abandoned it and evacuated his equipment from the site.

Comrade Sani also expressed concern over the non-completion of the Gwagwalada-Kuje road which was awarded some years ago.

He said a section of the road between Chukuku and Kiyi communities, about a kilometre long, had been abandoned for over a year now.

He, therefore, appealed to the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, to as a matter of urgency mobilise the contractor back to site, even as he urged the minister to investigate the project.

Reacting, the Chairman of Kwali, Danladi Chiya, said the council had written to the FCT minister to draw his attention to the abandoned project.
