The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has flagged off construction and renovation of 80 schools in Adamawa State.
According to Daily Trust, The Chief Field Officer of UNICEF Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office, Bhanu Pathak, disclosed this on Thursday during a flag-off ceremony for schools construction and renovation project funded by the Government of Germany.
“This is an important project that will result in the renovation and construction of 80 schools in Fufore and Guyuk LGAs in this phase before the end of 2020”, he noted.
“Another set of schools will be considered in Hong, Mubi North and Mubi South LGAs respectively, ultimately contributing to quality education outcomes in Adamawa State at this level”.
Enumerating some of the successes recorded between 2015 and 2019 under another project, Towards the Safe School Initiative, funded by the Government of Norway, he disclosed that 400,000 pupils were reached during the COVID-19 lockdown through TV and radio programmes, while efforts were being made to return 544,951 out-of-school children back to the classroom.

Pathak, therefore, requested Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to direct for the immediate release of the state’s counterpart contribution amounting to N200 million for the implementation of all basic education and emergency interventions in the state for 2020.
Reiterating the commitment of his administration to education, Fintiri said he would not relent until every child gets access to quality education.
