The Federal Capital Territory Administration has warned Mpape residents against reconstructing demolished structures in the area.

The administration said there should be no reconstruction in the area until the demolition was completed.

Speaking during an evaluation visit to the area on Sunday, the Chairman FCTA Ministerial Taskforce on City Sanitation,  Ikharo Attah, said, “If you look at Mpape now, the enormity of illegality that is coming up here is multidimensional. The mobile shanties and massive return of umbrella or canopy markets, particularly in the evening, is not good at all.

“We have not attained 25 per cent of the total clean up. Sadly, they brought back all second-hand building materials to the road, but we are going to push them back very strongly.

“Whoever is developing any project in Mpape must go to the FCT Department of Development Control to certify the work and get approval before proceeding. No illegal development and structure would be tolerated.”

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Dalhatu Ezekiel, has faulted the minister, Muhammed Bello, for allegedly disobeying the order of the commission to suspend the demolition.

Speaking to our correspondent in a telephone interview on Friday, the PCC commissioner said, “Telling them to allow us to investigate; and they still go ahead with the demolition is clearly an aberration.

“Anytime the ombudsman steps in and gives a directive and you still go ahead, that is an aberration.

“I want to believe they didn’t get our communication before going on with their demolition.”

He however, revealed that the commission was still investigating the claims by residents.
