The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has called for reconstitution of the land use allocation committees in line with the Land Use Act, and estate surveyors taking prominent roles.
They also sought for professionalisation of the land departments to ensure that the director and registrar positions are occupied by registered estate surveyors and valuers.
NIESV President, Sir Emmanuel Wike, who made the suggestions during the 8th Council Meeting of the Institution in Enugu, said that they have started reaping from the Executive Order 5 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.
The institution stated that the order signed in February 5, 2018 to improve local content in public procurement with science, engineering and technology components impacted on local practitioners.
Wike stated that the Executive order 5 demonstrated the Federal Government’s effort to apply science, technology and innovation within Nigeria.
According to him, the order also underscored measure of respect and value President Buhari placed on Nigerian professionals.
He restated that Nigerian professionals were already reaping from it as they now do most of the work, which foreigners were doing before the order was signed into law.
He noted that the order had now given them opportunity to carry out projects, which their foreign colleagues were doing without recourse to their regulatory body.
Wike further disclosed that the order had continued to create job opportunities for the teeming population, noting that before the order, foreigners were coming into Nigeria to carry out projects with their own workers.
“It would encourage indigenous experts in diaspora to return home for public procurement purposes. This may result in improved standards and healthy competition in all sector,” he stated.
He praised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for the good working relationship between agencies and members in asset valuation as well as facility management.
