Developer Of Yaba Collapsed Building To Face Prosecution, Lagos Govt Vows

The Lagos State Government has said that it will prefer charges against Gboyega Bello, the developer of the collapsed building at No. 16, Akanbi Street, Onike, Yaba, last February, for negligence.

The state’s Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, who stated this during a review meeting in Alausa, said the developer was culpable for disregarding the due process in building construction in Lagos State, having commenced construction without planning permit and authorisation from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), in addition to not insuring the building as required by law and ignoring contravention, stop-work and seal up notices served by the agency.

Salako said the developer feigned compliance as he momentarily left the site only to return surreptitiously, break government seal on the property and carried on construction.
